# April 6 - Envelopes as Groove Designers

## Focus
Use function generators to shape impact, swing, and pad motion instead of only triggering notes.

## Modules
Make Noise Maths, Buchla and Tiptop Audio 281t, Doepfer A-140, Doepfer A-143-1, Make Noise MultiMod, Tiptop Z4000

## Manuals To Skim
Maths, 281t, A-140, A-143-1, MultiMod, Z4000

## 60-Minute Plan
1. `0:00-0:10` Build one drum voice from trigger, envelope, and VCA only.
2. `0:10-0:25` Compare fast exponential and slower curved envelopes on the same sound source.
3. `0:25-0:40` Use one envelope to open the pad VCA and another to move filter or detune.
4. `0:40-0:55` Patch one function generator as a clocked modulation source instead of a plain envelope.
5. `0:55-1:00` Note which envelope shape makes drums feel heavier and which makes pads feel more threatening.

## Questions
- What part of the groove changed most when you changed envelope shape?
- Which module is fastest to dial in for percussion?
- When does a pad envelope feel cinematic rather than sleepy?
- Did any envelope become a useful modulation oscillator?
- What would you miss most if you only kept one function generator in the patch?
