### Quick Reference

#### Overview
- **Vertex** is a high-quality, voltage-controlled analog stereo VCA/auto-panner for Eurorack.
- Uses 4 VCAs (2 linear, 2 exponential: per channel) for advanced stereo processing and control.
- 8hp, 25mm depth.
- All analog, DC coupled (handles CV and audio).

### Panel Controls

#### Knobs

| Control | Function |
|-------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| **Gain** | Baseline gain for both L+R VCAs (manual "drone" or always-on level); fully CW = unity gain. |
| **Gain CV Amt** | Attenuates (+/-) incoming Gain CV. Fully CCW = 0V, noon = 10V envelope for full open, CW = 5V envelope for full. |
| **Skew** | Balances stereo image. Noon = even. CCW = loud L, quiet R. CW = loud R, quiet L. |
| **Skew CV Amt** | Attenuverts Skew CV; noon = 0. CW = +, CCW = -. |

#### Inputs

| Jack | Details | Voltage Range/Type |
|----------------|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| **Gain CV** | Controls gain of both L+R channels (affected by Gain CV Amt). | -10V to +10V (handles +/-5 to 10V envelopes, accepts bipolar CVs) |
| **Skew CV** | Modulates Skew control (attenuverted by Skew CV Amt). | +/-10V bipolar (DC to audio rate for panning/LFOs etc.) |
| **L In** | Left audio/CV in; normalled to R if R unpatched (mono to stereo). | Audio or CV, 0-10V typical modular signal range |
| **R In** | Right audio/CV input. | Audio or CV, 0-10V typical |

#### Outputs

| Jack | Details | Type |
|--------------|------------------------|-----------------|
| **L Out** | Left processed signal | Audio or CV |
| **R Out** | Right processed signal | Audio or CV |

### Indicator LEDs
- **L/R LEDs** show level of control voltage sent to each VCA (combined action of Gain, Gain CV, Skew, Skew CV).

---

### Voltage Ranges & Signal Handling
- **VCAs cap at unity gain** – won't amplify above input level, even if overdriven with CV.
- Overdriving CV (CV > needed for unity) “clips” envelopes, changing contour from e.g. AD to AHD without adding audio distortion.
- All CVs are analog, work at audio rates (use for AM/panning/LFOs/etc).

---

### Example Patch Recipes

**1. Stereo Tremolo:**
- Stereo in to L/R inputs, output L/R.
- Gain at noon to 3:00.
- LFO to Skew CV, Skew CV Amt ~1:00.
- Result: Moving/panning tremolo FX.

**2. Voltage-Controlled Panning:**
- Mono in to L input, R input unpatched.
- Gain full CW.
- Adjust Skew or send Skew CV for voltage-controlled panning.
- Pro tip: Envelope to Gain CV for shaped panning without changing peaks.

**3. Dual VCAs for CV or XY Processing:**
- Patch independent CVs to L+R inputs/outputs, one envelope to Gain CV.
- Use Skew for balancing/offset.
- Works well for oscilloscope XY or laser modulation.

### Panel Cleaning
- Matte black panel can show fingerprints; clean with soft cloth & a little isopropyl alcohol.

---
